1. Panax ginseng

Called the herbal Viagra, Panax ginseng (red ginseng) has solid research behind it. Researchers reviewed seven studies of red ginseng and ED in 2008. Dosages ranged from 600 to 1,000 milligrams (mg) three times daily. They concluded there was “suggestive evidence for the effectiveness of red ginseng in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.”

More current research is examining how red ginseng influences ED. Ginsenosides are one element present in Panax ginseng extract that have action at the cellular level to improve erection.

The action of Panax ginseng appears to be most effective for those with high lipids in their blood and metabolic syndrome. This herb is known to have anti-inflammatory action, improve lung function, and improve blood flow in other diseases — all characteristics that may reduce ED.

2. Rhodiola rosea

3. DHEA

The influential Massachusetts male aging study showed that men with ED were more likely to have low levels of DHEA. In 2009, 40 men with ED participated in another study in which half receiving 50 mg DHEA and half receiving a placebo once a day for six months. Those receiving the DHEA were more likely to achieve and maintain an erection.

More recently, DHEA has been identified as an option for treatment of ED for men with concurrent diabetes. ED commonly affects these men because of hormonal issues as well as diabetes complications that interfere with blood flow to organs.

4. L-arginine

L-arginine is an amino acid naturally present in your body. It helps make nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels to facilitate a successful erection and is essential for healthy sexual functioning.

Researchers studied the effects of L-arginine on ED. Thirty-one percent of men with ED taking 5 grams of L-arginine per day experienced significant improvements in sexual function.

A second study showed that L-arginine combined with pycnogenol, a plant product from tree bark, restored sexual ability to 80 percent of participants after two months. Ninety-two percent had restored sexual ability after three months.

Another placebo-controlled study found that L-arginine in combination with other medications was well-tolerated, safe, and effective for mild-to-moderate ED.

5. Acupuncture

Though studies are mixed, many show positive results when acupuncture is used to treat ED. A 1999 study, for example, found that acupuncture improved the quality of erections and restored sexual activity in 39 percent of participants.

A later study published in 2003 reported that 21 percent of ED patients who received acupuncture had improved erections. Other studies have shown conflicting results, but this treatment has potential and may work for you.

The risks of acupuncture are low if provided by a licensed acupuncturist. Acupuncture shows promise for treating ED, but more studies are needed.

6. Yohimbe

This supplement is extracted from the bark of the African yohimbe tree. Some studies have shown positive effects on sexual performance with use of this drug.

However, the American Urological Association doesn’t recommend yohimbe as an ED treatment. This is because there’s not a lot of evidence proving it works. Its side effects might be damaging to health. These include increased blood pressure and heart rate, irritability, and tremor.

Folic acid (vitamin B9)

This vitamin is important, especially in early pregnancy. Nowadays, doctors even recommend that women planning a pregnancy take a multivitamin containing folic acid two to three months before conceiving. Folic acid is especially useful when new tissues need to be formed. That is why the embryo needs it from day one. It contributes, among other things, to the formation of blood cells, the brain and the nervous system. Folic acid deficiency can cause growth retardation, congenital malformation, or neural tube defect (eg, spina bifida ). The daily requirement for folic acid in pregnant women ranges from 0.4 mg to 1.0 mg per day. In Canada and the United States, folic acid is added to white flour, cornmeal and pasta.

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada recommends that pregnant women suffering from nausea and vomiting should stop taking their prenatal multivitamins if they contain iron because this substance sometimes increases nausea. These multivitamins can be safely replaced with a folic acid supplement or prenatal vitamins with a low iron content. In fact, the iron requirements of the pregnant woman do not generally increase during the first trimester.

Calcium

A million fish have been found dead recently in revers in southeastern Australia, a hecatomb attributed by the government to drought, and academics mismanagement of rivers.

The Banks of the immense Murray-Darling watershed now stink and there are countless videos made by local elected officials or local residents to alert public opinion on this ecological disaster.

The authorities have estimated the lose to  several hundred thousand dead fish, and the figure of one million could be exceeded already, while the government of the Sate of New South Wales fears a worsening of the crisis, with temperatures announced this week on the rise.

In addition to drought, declining river levels and rising temperatures may have also encouraged the spread of algae that would deprive fish of oxygen and release toxins

“We expect to see more dead fish in parts of the far West (New South Wales State) and the (tableland) Northern Tablelands,” Said the Minister of Water from the state, Niall Blair.

Although located in the southeast of the Island-continent, this disaster has a national impact.

“It’s an ecological disaster,” Said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday. “It’s a shocking show”

Morrison’s government attributed the drought to the hecatomb, while defending certain policies that local residents believe have created pollution and declining water levels. “There is a drought and this is one of the consequences of the drought,” Morrison said.

Researchers have been warning for years, however, that wild and uncontrolled extraction of large quantities of water from rivers, fro irrigation, or for other purposes is needed.

American Missionary Killed in Bambili Cameroon During Armed Conflict

Bamenda, Cameroon – An American missionary died on Tuesday after being shot in the head in clashes between armed separatists and soldiers in northwestern Cameroon, said the director of the regional hospital.

Charles Trumann Wesco, an Indiana missionary who had been in the area for two weeks, was taken to the Bamenda hospital after being seriously injured in the car, hospital director Kingue Thomson Njie said.

“After all attempts to save his life, he died in our hospital,” Njie told The Associated Press.

Wesco’s wife Stephanie and her eight children are still in Bamenda, he said.

Dave Halyman, deputy pastor of the Believers Baptist Church in Warsaw, Indiana, where Stephanie Wesco’s son, Don Williams, is the senior pastor, said Williams telephoned his daughter after the shooting.

In a report from Williams, Halyman reported that the shooting had taken place when Charles and Stephanie Wesco were driven in a car by another missionary to the city of Bamnui in the suburb of Bambili in Bamenda, where the family lives. He said that Charles Wesco was in the front seat and two shots were hit on the windscreen and on the head. Nobody else was hurt, Halyman said.

The family had been in Cameroon for only 12 days before the shooting in Cameroon, said Halyman. He said that they had been financially supported for two years and had been in Cameroon two years ago.

The increase in violence began after the government stifled demonstrations by English-speaking teachers and lawyers protesting against the so-called marginalization of the English speaking minority and the effectiveness in implementation of the English Common law in the English speaking regions. After repression by the government, armed factions have emerged and used force to press for an independent state they call “Ambazonia”.

The protests against the 85-year re-election of Biya on 7 October continue.
